WAR AFFAIR proved to be the
top-year-old of the season when he scored a two-length victory in the
S$325,000 Aushorse Golden Horseshoe over 1200m at Kranji here tonight.
The New Zealand gelding was
the only juvenile this term to claim more than one of the Horseshoe series,
after his last start victory in the Inglis Sydney Juvenile Stakes 12 days
ago.
Backing up so quickly after
that run proved to be no border for the Mark Walker trained gelding. Ridden
once again by Joao Moreira, WAR AFFAIR settled in midfield and once he found
daylight at the top of the straight, it was always to deny him victory in
the Singapore Group 2 event.
Purchased for NZ$70,000 as
a yearling, he has now earned more than S$200,000 from two wins and a fourth
in three outings.
"He’s a pretty exciting
horse. He’s kept improving with age and he’s got an exciting future in
Singapore,” said Walker. “Being by O’Reilly, who is a great sire, I think
he’ll go over more ground here."
