It has taken 27 rides but
Lisa Allpress finally nailed that elusive winner in her current Singapore
stint when successful aboard SIR FLEETWOOD in the Class 4 - 1200m sprint on
the polytrack at Kranji here tonight.
Allpress first rode here in
2001 when known by her maiden name Mumby and since then has been amongst the
top five jockeys in New Zealand for the past seven seasons, winning the
title in 2011/12.
Despite recording his sixth
win just four starts back, SIR FLEETWOOD started at long odds but was always
travelling well under Allpresss, settling down third before moving up second
going into the home stretch.
The New Zealand gelding
eventually mastered the front-running KAISER BRIGHT to win by three-quarter
of a length.
"It’s taken a few meetings,
a bit of patience and plenty of hard work, but I got there in the end,"
Allpress said. "It's tough when you are riding against the likes of Joao
Moreira, Corey Brown and Alan Munro. They certainly don’t make it easy for
me, but that’s the challenge I came here for."
Her current stint finishes
end of November but she hopes to continue to stay and ride in Singapore.
