After recording three minor placings in his first five rides, rookie apprentice Amirul Adil
Ismadi
quickly translated that early promise into a win astride ROCKET EXPRESS in
the opening race here today.
And it was a ride that took
many by surprise despite his lack of experience.
The New Zealand gelding
found himself at the back of the 14-strong field and was still the
backmarker making the turn into the straight.
But ROCKET EXPRESS picked
up the horses in front one by one to win drawing away by one and a quarter
lengths.
Indentured to Kevin
Coetzee, his riding skill has already caught the eyes of several trainers as
evident from his six rides for three trainers today.
But that shouldn't come as
a surprise, for he is the son of former top jockey Ismadi Ismail who is now
assistant to trainer Peter Lee.
ROCKET EXPRESS, trained by
Lee, has three previous wins but has not tasted since March last year.
