Super Easy is Singapore

The Michael Freedman-trained SUPER EASY was last night named Singapore’s Horse of the Year for the 2012 season at a glittering function hosted by the Association of Racehorse Trainers Singapore. The Darci Brahma entire made a clean sweep of the Singapore Three-Year-Old Challenge, culminating with a spectacular come-from-behind win in the Group 1 Singapore Guineas on May 18 in front of international visitors in town for the Singapore Airlines International Cup meeting two days later. During 2012, Super Easy landed seven victories before being defeated for the first time by BETTER LIFE in the Group 1 Kranji Mile on 7 October and then having two more starts in Hong Kong for the year. Besides being named Horse of the Year, SUPER EASY was also named as Champion Three-Year-Old through 2011-12 in which he raced 10 times recording 10 straight victories. The 2011 Horse of the Year, ROCKET MAN picked up two awards for trainer Patrick Shaw and owner Fred Crabbia when named Champion Older Horse and Champion Sprinter. ROCKET MAN had three starts during 2012, winning a Kranji Stakes A in March before venturing to Dubai for the Group 1 Dubai Golden Shaheen in which he finished second. He returned to Singapore capturing a fourth straight success in the Group 1 Lion City Cup before injury robbed him of a chance of contesting the International Group 1 KrisFlyer International Sprint. Stablemate ATO took the honours in the KrisFlyer and that victory along with his success in the Group 1 Patron’s Bowl over 1600m in June saw him capture the Champion Four-Year-Old award. Another multiple award recipient was the Hideyuki Takaoka-trained four-year-old BETTER LIFE who captured the Champion Miler and Champion Stayer categories. She also picked up victory in the Most Improved category. BETTER LIFE tasted success in the Group 1 Kranji Mile over 1600m in October before winning Singapore’s most prestigious domestic race – the Group 1 Longines Singapore Gold Cup over 2200m. The mare began the 2012 racing year with a rating of 61 and following her Gold Cup success had a rating of 108. The most keenly contested award was the Champion Two-Year-Old which went the way of RISING EMPIRE after taking out the Group 3 Magic Millions Juvenile Challenge at the end of July. The Mark Walker-trained gelding FLYING FULTON was named Champion Polytrack Horse. He started the seasoned winning the first feature race of the year, the Group 3 New Year Cup over 1900m on Jan 1 and ended it by capturing the final feature, the Group 3 Colonial Chief Stakes over 1700m in November. In all FLYING FULTON raced on the Polytrack on five occasions in 2012, registering four wins and a second. Along with the equine awards, presentations were also handed to the year’s champion trainer Laurie Laxon, champion jockey Joao Moreira, champion apprentice Tengku Rehaizat and champion owner Newbury Racing Stable. |
