The battle for the 2013
jockey's premiership is going to the wire and Azhar Ismail boosted his
chances with three winners here today to lead Jai Shankar by just one going
into the final weekend next week.
Seven-time champion Azhar,
who last won the title in 2010, has been piling up the winners in recent
weeks since riding freelance after parting ways with Golden Knight Stable
and trainer Kevin Coetzee.
Azhar landed his first win
today on the Nor Azman-trained LUCK TREASURE, a maiden winner in seven
starts.
With three days to
Christmas, his next winner is the very appropriate HOHOHO, a second-time
winner in five outings, trained by Chong Keng Leong.
Azhar wound up the day with
ROCKET EXPRESS, now a six-time winner in 56 starts, trained by Peter Lee.
Shankar, meanwhile, is
determined to land his first jockey's title. His win on HORIZON LAD today
was his 48th for the season.
