Speed Baby wins Carlsberg Cup final leg

KUALA LUMPUR:  Oct 19, 2013

SPEED BABY regained some of his old sparkle to captured the RM175,000 Carlsberg Cup - 3rd leg over 1600m at Sungei Besi here today but it was the runner-up OCEAN FANTASY, beaten by a neck, who was declared champion in the three-race series.

OCEAN FANTASY also finished second in the second leg over 1400m last month and earned 14 points to finished ahead of DARK MATTER, RAFAGA and SPEED BABY (12 points each) in the final tally.

But for owners Baby Stable and trainer Kevin Coetzee, it was a relief to see SPEED BABY finally come right in just his fourth start this season.

The Australian gelding was Malaysia's Horse Of The Year last season after winning the Piala Emas Sultan Selangor and Coronation Cup and was third in the Yang Di Pertua Negeri Gold Cup.

SPEED BABY also won the Coronation Cup in 2010 and has now ten wins in 28 starts.
