Christmas comes early for Krystal Bishop

SINGAPORE:  Oct 11, 2013

Jingle bells ring early for South Australian apprentice Krystal Bishop when she broke through for her maiden win in Singapore astride CHRISTMAS at Kranji here tonight.

Bishop settled the New Zealand gelding in the rear of the Kranji Stakes D - 1700m event on the polytrack, then made a late bid to nail the in-form STAR ACADEMY by a short head to end a series of disappointing runs since recording his third win back in February.

Bishop is in Singapore on a two-week stint as part of an ongoing collaboration between the Singapore Turf Club and Thoroughbred Racing South Australia in organising the placement of the Duxes of their Apprentice School for short stints here. Previous leading South Australian apprentices to have benefitted from that scheme are Amy Herrmann, Libby Hopwood and Jordan Frew.

Bishop, 21, has ridden in excess of 90 winners includin 18 scored at metropolitan tracks. She has taken part in several apprentice series, including two at domestic level in South Australia as well as three at national level in Launceston, Doomben and Alice Springs.

CHRISTMAS is only the fifth ride for Bishop in Singapore. Her stint ends on Sunday.
