Apprentice Bukhari suspended three months

IPOH:  Mar 1, 2013

Apprentice Bukhari Abdul Hamid was today charged for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards on MIYAGISAN (Captain Rio - The Heroine by Heroicity) here last Saturday and suspended three months.

The Stewards concluded an inquiry into the ride on the New Zealand gelding today.

Evidence was taken from Bukhari and trainer Loh Kin Kuen, the Trainer of MIYAGISAN and the acting master of Bukhari.

After reviewing the films and hearing all the evidence, Bukhari pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards in that he being the rider of MIYAGISAN unnecessarily restrained his mount from approximately the 1300m to the 1000m, resulting in MIYAGISAN losing its position and getting back further in the field.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Bukhari’s guilty plea, disciplinary record and mitigating factors. Bukhari’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of three months. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of Bukhari’s suspension to commence from Mar 11 and to expire on Jun 10, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal.
