Trainer Alvin Tan celebrated his 44th birthday in style when he saddled SPEEDY CAT to victory in the main event, the Kranji Stakes A - 1200m sprint on the polytrack at Kranji gere today.

The race lost a main player when the unbeaten EMERALD HILL was a late scratching in the afternoon but there were still plenty of quality opposition for SPEEDY CAT.

After landed his fifth win last May, SPEEDY CAT went through an exasperating run of five consecutive placings. But a short let-up since October did the trip as he coasted home by two and a half lengths ahead of GOAL KEEPER who was aiming for six wins in-a-row.

"I was concerned he was up 17kg in body weight since the last time he raced. But John (jockey Powell) said to me before the race that the horse felt fantastic,” said Tan.

"We will consider running him in the Four-Year-Old Series with the first two legs worth looking at (Stewards Cup - 1400m and Patrons' Bowl - 1600m)."
