The Malaysia Three-Year-Old
Championship series this year has begun on a disappointing note for the
punters.
Both the odds-on favourites
in the first two heats held at Sungei Besi here today were beaten, with one
finishing out of the money.
STORM THROUGH, a last-start
winner who has won twice in six starts, set the pace in the first heat over
1100m but weakened badly to finish third behind newcomer STREET MAFIA.
The colt was purchased for
US$22,000 as a yearling and is among a large team of American breds trainer
Prakhash Pereira has in training.
RISING EMPIRE was sent out
at RM7 in the second heat over 1200m despite having not raced since early
November last year, although the gelding has three wins from seven starts.
However, a check in the
early running saw RISING EMPIRE struggled home fifth behind MR VAIN MARCEAU
who paid RM122 for a win.
The winner had disappointed
in his debut last month but managed to come from a long way back early to
win drawing by a length.
The win completed a perfect
day for jockey Lou Ho who scored on all his three rides for the afternoon,
having earlier scored on HAPPY SURPRISER and MIYAGISAN.
