South African jockey Greg
Cheyne, who landed the RM500,000 Penang Sprint Trophy in his first ever ride
in Malaysia last July, made it four winners in-a-row when he scored a
hat-trick at Sungei Besi today.
SAYAPRAYERFORME, resuming
after a six-month spell, gave Cheyne the perfect start but it was a
hard-fought victory as the nine-year-old won by a short head for only his
second win in 36 starts.
ENGINE followed up his last
start success to win comfortably for Cheyne and his third winner was the
appropriately named ONLY THUMPS UP. He was unplaced in his only other ride
later in the day.
The day also started
perfectly for Noel "King" Callow, a regular visitor to Malaysia and very
popular here, when he landed the first two races on A PERFECTIONIST and
APOCALYPSE, and was placed second in one other ride.
A PERFECTIONIST, a
A$200,000 yearling who failed to show in two starts in Singapore and has
been paced five times in 11 outings in Malaysia, finally got off the mark
when he romped home by five lengths.
APOCALYPSE, racing for the
first time since finishing second in his debut in February last year, made
up for lost time with a seven-length victory.
