Cheyne bids farewell with win on Goodfresh

Greg Cheyne bid farewell to Singapore fittingly with a win from four rides at Kranji here today.

The South African only returned to the saddle last week after being sidelined for two months through injury. But his current contract runs out this month and Cheyne managed to go out on a high on  GOODFRESH.

Despite being unplaced in six starts previously, the New Zealand gelding stated favourite in the Maiden - 1200m sprint on the polytrack and repaid punters' faith in him with a three quarter-length victory to pay $14 for a win.

It was only Cheyne's ninth win in Singapore this season compared with his 33-winner haul last year.

This year, however, Cheyne made several flying visits to Malaysia where he notched up 15 wins.

"it’s always nice to ride a winner at the last meeting," said Cheyne. "I’ll always have fond memories of that win and my stay in Singapore. I’m now looking forward to re-establishing myself back in South Africa."
