Melbourne Cup winning jockey Corey Brown begins his two-month stint in Singapore on Sunday before heading off to Europe to try his luck there. Last month, the former champion apprentice and champion jockey in Sydney was granted a two-month licence from May 1 by the Singapore Turf Club. His earlier arrival means that he will ride MR BIG in the Group 1 Lion City Cup as well as eight other horses on Sunday. Brown rode briefly in Singapore in 2001 when he scored on CHIEF EMPEROR and had two seconds in 19 rides. A lot has happened to him since. Brown won his first group 1 race when successful on MR PRUDENT in the 2001 Sydney Cup and has added 32 more to his name. The highlight was winning the 2009 Melbourne Cup on SHOCKING after three minor placings in eight attempts before that. Brown enjoyed two successful seasons in Hong Kong before winning the Sydney title in the 2001/02 season. His second stint there in 2005 ended when banned for six months for drug-related offences. Returning to Australia, Brown has to rebuild his career which he has done so with flying colours. |
