Joe Czarina bags Sultan
Gold Vase IPOH: Jul 28, 2013 |

JOE CZARINA, who has been racing (winning seven races) in the lower divisions until this month, scored a surprise win in the RM400,000 Sultan Gold Vase over 1100m on the straight course here today. But perhaps the win was not that surprising although he paid RM73 for a win. Earlier in the year, JOE CZARINA struck his best form in more than two years of racing when he reeled off a hat-trick. Then came his first big test two weeks ago when he finished sixth in the RM500,000 Sprint Trophy (1400m) in Penang. While the top finishers in the Sprint Trophy probably feel the strain of having to race twice in 14 days, JOE CZARINA was up to the task. HARRYS PAL, who finished just one spot in front of JOE CZARNA in Penang, led from the start but the latter was able to run him down in the closing stages by three parts of a length. COLIN THE FIRTH, who was fourth in Penang, improved to finish third. GOOD BABY, the runaway winner in the Sprint Trophy, started odds-on but was never in the hunt, finishing 11th. Apprentice Chung Wah Thong was on cloud nine after claiming his biggest win to date. Indentured to winning trainer Dr Tan Swee Hock, he replaced the indisposed Jai Shankar on JOE CZARINA and showed no nerves at all to pilot the gelding to victory. |
