CHINO DIABLO created
history by becoming the first Malaysian bred to win a race at Kranji when
successful in the Benchmark 53, Div 2 event over 1000m on the polytrack here
tonight.
Malaysian breds have in the
past won races at Bukit Timah, with TUNEFUL MELODY being successful in the
inaugural running of the Raffles Cup in 1991.
Bought for just RM35,000 as
a two-year-old at the National Premier Sale at Tanjong Rambutan, CHINO
DIABLO won three races from 15 outings in Malaysia when trained by Tony Yeoh.
After joining the stable of
Tan Hor Khoon, the five-year-old entire ran a first-up third in Singapore
last August but bled in his next start and finished last a month later.
Having his start since,
CHICO DIABLO made all the running under Sam Subian to win by half-a-length
from a heavily backed favourite SOUL COMMANDER.
"He’s got an abundance of
speed, but he can just bolt away at trackwork,” said Sam. “If he can learn
to settle better, he will be a much better horse and can even go up to
1200m."
Malaysian breds enjoyed
their best-ever season in open company in Malaysia last year, highlighted by
BEAUTIFUL CHOICE's win in the Perak Turf Club Charity Cup.
The success by CHINO DIABLO
tonight brought a much needed boost to the local breeding industry.
