Lady Diamond sparkles in Mile Challenge

Hudson Stable came into local racing in a big way in the past two years and all but two of their more than 30 horses were imported from the United States.

And it was one of the two non-American breds, LADY DIAMOND, who triumphed in the second leg of the RM150,000 Malaysia 4YO Challenge over 1600m here today.

The Japanese mare made a winning debut over the Ipoh 1100m straight course early last year but has showed her liking for longer trips this season with a win over 1800m here in July.

LADY DIAMOND skipped the first leg of the challenge series which was held over 1200m last month.

Jockey BN Shahrul, who rides the mare for the first time, had her trailing the field early and LADY DIAMOND was still a long way making the home turn.

But once given a bit of rein, LADY DIAMOND powered home to win by one and a quarter lengths.

The odds-on favourite JEAN FRANCOIS was a disappointing fifth.
