HOLY EMPIRE edges out SUPERNOVA to win the Saas Fee

HOLY EMPIRE ruled the track at Kranj here this afternoon when he carved out a narrow but deserving victory in the S$200,000 Saas Fee Stakes over 1400m.

The condition weight-event saw two horses aiming to complete a hat-trick fought out the finish well ahead of the rest of the field, with SUPERNOVA just losing out by a neck.

Both horses were tucked behind the pacemaker MATTERHORN and had the race to themselves in the run home.

HOLY EMPIRE just missed out on a group 3 race last year when he finished second to RISING EMPIRE in the Magic Millions Juvenile Championship for two-year-olds.

The consistent galloper has made further headway since coming under his new trainer Michael Freedman this season, winning four of five starts for him.

Winning jockey Alan Munro has a superb afternoon with a treble, although he had to share honours in the final event when his mount CORDOBA dead-heated with EMPEROR'S BANQUET.
