Former Singapore galloper
ENGINE has found a new lease of life in Malaysia after notching his third
win in six starts this year in the RM75,000 Shah Alam Trophy (Class 3 -
1400m) at Sungei Besi here today.
Ridden by Noel Callow, the
five-year-old made amends for his last-start failure when he started
favourite but encountered rough passages to finish fourth. This time he won
by a comfortable one length.
Purchased for A$125,000 as
a yearling, he had two starts as a juvenile in Australian, finishing fourth
once.
Then known as ACE ALARDE,
he began his Singapore campaign promisingly when he scored in his second
start at Kranji. Then came a series of minor placings (10 in all) before he
was shipped off to Kuala Lumpur in the middle of last year.
ENGINE has not finished out
of the board in nine starts in Malaysia thus far.
