New-kid-on-the-block Shane
Edwards has taken Malaysian racing by storm.
The former Perth trainer
had a dream start to his career here when his first runner, newcomer MONSILI
scored an impressive win here yesterday.
And it got better today
when his second runner REBEL FURY, another newcomer, outclassed his rivals
to win the RM300,000 Tunku Gold Cup at Sungei Besi where Edwards is now
based.
The Australian
six-year-old, who won seven races in 22 starts in Australia for Edwards,
was always travelling well in the 1200m set-weight event under Epsom Derby
winning jockey Alan Munro.
REBEL FURY has the race won
a long way out, winning by three and a half lengths ahead of GOOD SIGHT, a last-start
second in the Yang Di Pertua Negeri Gold Cup (2200m) in December.
Last year's Tunku Gold Cup winner MIGHTY
TRIPLE ACE, who was resuming after a spell, finished third this time.
It was the first big race victory in Malaysia
for the new Singapore based rider, who makes occasional visits across the
caueway.
