HS Gill suspended four months

KUALA LUMPUR:  May 17, 2013

Jockey Harmeet Singh Gill was today suspended four months for his handling of SWISS BANK in a home based race for Class 5 over 1300m here last Saturday.

SWISS BANK, trained by Johnny Lim, started favourite but was never in the hunt, finishing fifth to ADMIRAL MICK.

The Stewards concluded the inquiry into Gill’s ride on SWISS BANK in the above race today.

Gill was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that:

1. Near the 900m to the 400m, the Stewards were not satisfied with his vigour on the horse to maintain or improve his position; and

2. The Stewards were not satisfied with his explanations as to why he restrained his mount throughout the part of the race from the 900m to the 400m.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Gill’s points of mitigation and previous record. Gill was suspended from riding in races for a period of four months with immediate effect from today to Sep 16, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal.
