Apprentice Hamizan suspended 12 months

Apprentice Mohd Hamizan Hamzah has been suspended 12 months after his urine sample taken on Feb 16 in Kuala Lumpur returned positive to "Methamphetamine".

A report dated Feb 21 from the chief analyst of Veterinary Forensic Laboratory stated that two coded urine samples taken at the meeting on Feb were received the same day for analysis under the MRA Rules and Regulations. No prohibited substances were detected except for sample coded "J-3145" which indicates the presence of "Methamphetamine".

Upon decoding, it was established that the above-mentioned sample belonged to Hamizan and the apprentice was was stood down from riding in trackwork and races with immediate effect yesterday.

Richard Lines, the master of Hamizan, was advised with regards to the contents of this report. An inquiry into this matter was held yestersy at the Selangor Turf Club.

The Stewards concluded the inquiry into the above matter today. Evidence was taken from Hamizan in the presence of Lines.

Hamizan pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 136(3)(b) and the particulars of the charge were that a urine sample coded "J-3145" submitted by him on Feb 16 at the Selangor Turf Club February Meeting 2013, on analysis, revealed the presence of "Methamphetamine" which is a prohibited substance under the MRA Rules.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account his previous record, guilty plea, mitigating factors including submissions from his master and his personal circumstances. Hamizan was suspended for a period of twelve months backdated to effect from yesterday and to expire on Feb 26, 2014, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal.
