Hanif lands winner in debut meeting

While Benny Woodworth hogged the limelight with a treble, it was new apprentice Mohd Khairi Hanif who had the most reason to celebrate at Sungei Besi here today.

Making his racing debut today, the Katherine Hughes apprentice had four rides and waited until the last one to put his name up in lights.

Partnering ONLY ONE WILL WIN, Hanif was tested to the full when, after setting the pace on the six-year-old, the pair was challenged by PRINZIO before prevailing by a short head. It was only the second win in 25 starts for the Australian gelding.

Woodworth, who elected to ride here today instead of Singapore, doubled his season's tally to six and trails Jai Shankar by one winner at the top of the jockey's table.
