King lands first winner in current stint

New-kid-on-the-block Stephen King finally landed his first winner when booted home DIVINE HERO in the final race at Kranji here tonight.

Granted a six-month licence at the start of the season, King had to wait six race day and 20 rides before breaking the duck on a horse who was also recorded his first win in Singapore.

DIVINE HERO had won once and placed five times in 10 starts in Australia. After a promising third in his debut, the four-year-old had an unplaced run followed by a last-start fourth before his breakthrough win today.

King, 42, who won the Melbourne Cup and Caulfield Cup on LET'S ELOPE, 42, had ridden with success in the Singapore in the past, counting ARENTI in the 2006 Lion City Cup among his wins.

"Relief is an understatement," King said of his first win this term. "I guess it’s been more frustrating that anything else as I had a fairly good start with four seconds."
