K-POP made history when he
became the first Korean bred to win a race in the local circuit when
successful in a Class 4 - 1700m handicap here today.
Ridden by promising
apprentice Amirul Ismail, the four-year-old disputed the early lead with two
other runners.
Last-start winner SPEED MAN
kicked clear passing the 800m and was five lengths clear at one stage. K-POP
moved up to second at the top of the straight and began to close the gap.
Hitting the front 200m out,
K-POP then held off the challenge of another last-start winner KINGFIGHTER
to win by one and a quarter lengths.
K-POP had raced four times
over sprint distances for a second last month and was going over a bit of
distance for the first time today which he clearly appreciated.
K-POP is among a batch of
three horses from Korea which landed in November 2011 for MAS Stable. Six
more horses from Korea have also arrived since.
