Two South Americans to make

Two South Americans will make their local racing debut at Ipoh this weekend and one of them, Wanderson D’Avila Da Silva Francisco Counthinho (W D’Avila), will be hoping to win the RM700,000 Coronation Cup. The Brazilian, who has more than 700 winners to his name, has been booked to ride topweight SPEED BABY in the 1600m set-weight event. Born in Rio De Janeiro, D’Avila, 38, has ridden in his native Brazil, the UK and has spent the last five years based in Cairns, Australia, riding mainly in provincial and country meetings. He is currently second in the Queensland country premiership with 18 winners. He wrote himself into the record books by winning five races at a country meeting in Atherton on Aug 25 this year. D’Avila has picked up 10 rides for the weekend. Chilean Roberto Jose Perez Sepulveda (RJ Perez), 28, rode in Macau for four years after completing his apprenticeship in 2005 and rode 84 winners. His best season was in 2007/08 when he chalked up 37 wins, finishing sixth on the Macau jockey’s premiership that season. Although he has not been nominated on any horse in the Coronation Cup, has has picked up nine rides for the weekend. He has some 276 winner to his name. |
