Lizarre bags Admiral Classic Stakes

LIZARRE gave his chances of getting a berth in the S$3mil Singapore Airlines International Cup next month a boost when he captured the Group 3 S$150,000 Admiralty Classic Stakes over 1600m at Kranji here today.

Since notching his first group win in the Group 3 New Year Cup on Jan 1, the South African gelding went through an exasperating sequence of five minor placings (four seconds and a third) in Group 3 races, narrowly beaten in all of them.

But there was no denying him this time.

Ridden by Barend Vorster, LIZARRE was tracked the pacemaker KEEP AWAY till the top of the straight before taking over the lead and held off the late challenge of ALWAYS CERTAIN to win by one length.

It was his third win in 19 starts in Singapore and came over from South Africa with a record of three wins including a listed race. He was also placed third in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas.

In Singapore, he was also third in the Group 1 Singapore Gold Cup two years ago.
