End of a long lane for two horses

It's the end of a long road for NOCOLLATERALNEEDED and ILLUSIONIST when their search for their maiden win ended here today.

NOCOLLATERALNEEDED, who managed just one placing in 22 previous outings, stunned the field when he coasted home by two lengths and a half to pay RM125 for a win.

ILLUSIONIST, who started favourite in a wide-open betting field after two good recent runs, had to fight for his victory, winning by a nose to pay RM22. It was his first win in 19 starts after being runner-up on four occasions.

The third race today was decided in the stewards' room when Jai Shankar, rider of the second-placed INTER REWARD, lodged an objection against HORIZON LAD, first past the post, for alleged interference at the 300m.

The objection was upheld and the placings were reversed. But Shankar was taken to hospital for observation two races later when his mount DIDI broke down and fell. DIDI fractured his off-fore cannon and was humanely euthanized.
