Up-and-coming stayer MARTIN outstayed the New Year Cup
winner LIZARRE to win the S$200,000 Fortune Bowl over 2000m at Kranji here
today, and gave jockey Danny Beasley a second consecutive victory in the
Singapore Group 3 event after his success with TENZING last year.
Riding a patient race, Beasley brought the New Zealand four-year-old from
well off the pace early to score by three quarters of a length ahead of
LIZARRE.
It was the gelding's fifth win in 12 starts in Singapore. He had finished
second in his only run in New Zealand.
Trainer Laurie Laxon, pleased with the victory, said: "I guess the Singapore
Derby would be where he is going now."
