Shaun Meeres to ride in Kuala Lumpur

There will be another new face amongst the riding ranks this weekend with the arrival of Perth jockey Shaun Meeres.

Meeres has picked up five rides for trainer former Perth trainer Frank Maynard on Saturday, namely, BUKIT BINTANG (Race 3), TOUESSROCK (Race 4), TAVAN BOGD (Race 6), RAFFLES PEGASUS (Race 10) and URBAN DANCER (Race 12).

On Sunday, Meeres has been nominated to ride LUCKYNUMBERSEVEN (Race 4), ENCOSTA FARINA (Race 5) and APOCALYPSE (Race 7) but will miss out on the big race, the RM300,000 Selangor Gold Cup (1600m).

Meeres started out as apprentice to trainer Tony Noonan at Mornington and later moved to Perth where he still rides Noonan's horses racing there.

It was on one of Noonan's young horses Meeres injured his knee and was sidelined for four months last year at the beginning of the 2012/13 season.
