Despite not having races
since winning his last start on Nov 25, EL MILAGRO still proved too good in
the Group 3 Kranji Sprint over 1200m at Kranji here tonight.
Partnered by Danny Beasley,
the Australian four-year-old made all the running to win by one and a
quarter lengths to record his eighth win in 16 starts.
It was however a first
group success for trainer Shane Baertschiger who took over from his father
Don a little over a year ago.
EL MILAGRO were unplaced in
the Group 2 Singapore 3YO Classic and the Group 1 Singapore Guineas last
year and his trainer's plan to race him fresh in tonight's event paid
dividends.
"We put him away after his
last run with this race in mind for him," revealed Baertschiger who said the
gelding is now headed for the Group 1 Lion City Cup later this month.
EL MILAGRO was purchased by
Baertschiger senior for A$100,000 at the Horses In Training Sale and managed
three wins with the gelding before handing over to Shane.
