Joao Moreira, who broke the
Singapore riding record for the number of winners for the three consecutive
seasons, has set another record which will probably stand the test of time.
The Brazilian jockey was in
invincible form at Kranji tonight when he won all his eight rides, eclipsing
the seven-winner feat by Saimee Jumaat recorded in August 2009. The former
Singapore champion rider, however, had a full book of 12 rides that day.
Right from the word 'go',
Moreira was unbeatable, winning the first four races with SILENT POWER,
HANKS, ZAC SPIRIT and MR MAGNUS. The last winner of the gem of them all, as
Moreira managed to bring him from the rear of the field to win by
three-quarter of a length.
Moreira had to sit out the
fifth race which was for claiming riders but continued where he left off
after that to win the remaining four races.
The wins on WEOWNA FLYER
and FARETTI were doubly sweet for Moreira as they were beaten odds-on
favourites for him last time out.
WEOWNA FLYER came from a
long way back to win by a neck while FARETTI got up up last couple of
strides to win by a head. "Winners come and go, but these two horses will be
special to me now," said an emotional Moreira.
