Joao Moreira signed off
from Singapore in the best way the champion jockey knows how — with six wins
and a group success to boast — at Kranji here today.
And his final winner at
Kranji before embarking on the next phase of his career in Hong Kong
starting next week is the aptly-named SUPERB SUCCESS.
Although the Brazilian will
not be here for the concluding two and a half months of the season, he is
set to win his fourth consecutive jockey's title in Singapore with 179
winners. He is currently 92 winners ahead of second-placed Manoel Nunes who
missed out this weekend's races due to a suspension.
With a full book of rides
in he final day of action at Kranji, Moreira found one to beat twice before
reeling three races in a row on BRAHMS AND LISZT, ORAKEI KORAKO and EURO
ZONE.
Two more placings later,
Moreira was back in the winner's circle to claim the inaugural running of
the Magic Millions More Magic 3YO Championship on WAR AFFAIR who made it six
consecutive wins from seven starts and making a clean sweep of the new
three-race series.
"Winning a Group race at my
last day in Singapore means a lot to me, but even more so I’ve done it on
this horse as I’ve ridden him at all his seven starts here for six wins,"
said Moreira of WAR AFFAIR.
Moreira then had another
second-place finish before taking the last two races on DRAGONFLY and SUPERB SUCCESS,
closing a remarkable chapter in his career.
