For so long, Malaysian
racing fans watched on TV the exploits of Joao Moreira as he blazed at
Kranji, setting riding records for three consecutive years, but never had
the chance to see the champion in person.
Since it was announced that
the Brazilian jockey had accepted an invitation to take part in the
International Jockeys Challenge this year, they waited in great anticipation
to see Moreira live in action at Sungei Besi.
And Moreira lived up to
that great expectation in his maiden appearance in Malaysia by scoring in
his very first ride this afternoon and went to to collect two more wins.
Moreira worked his magic on
WONDERFUL KID guiding the veteran galloper to win the Penang Turf Club
Trophy by three quarter of a length for the gelding's eighth win in 68
starts.
Moreira had an easier time
on BOOKY BOY when the Brazilian gelding romped to a runaway win in the Wuhan
Jockey Club Goodwill Cup.
Moreira's third winner of
the afternoon came on BUKIT BINTANG in the Melbourne Racing Club Trophy.
Moreira, however, was
unable to win any of the three International Jockeys Challenge races, with
his best effort being third on ANAK PUJUT in the Kenilworth Cup.
