Consistent group performer
NANDOWRA picked up his second win of the season with a hard-fought victory
in the A$150,000 Yew Tee Classic Stakes over 1800m at Kranji here tonight.
Partnered by Manoel Nunes
who also rode him to victory in the Group 3 Polytrack Mile Championship back
in March, the New Zealand five-year-old nearly threw away his chances with
an untidy start and unbalancing his rider.
But Nunes soon regained
control of NANDOWRA and the gelding sat on the outside of race favourite
READY TO STRIKE. The pair fought stride-for-stride to the post with NANDOWRA
winning by a head.
It was the third Group 3
success for NANDOWRA who also won the JBBA Moonbeam Vase in April last year,
and his ninth win overall from 28 starts.
"For some reason, he jumped
straight to the outside and my right shoulder hit the side of the gates,"
said Nunes, explaining the poor start that nearly got him dislodged.
For the Brazilian jockey,
it's his fourth group success since relocating to Singapore. He also won the
Group 3 Merlion Trophy and Group 2 Stewards’ Cup with SPEEDY CAT.
