Earlier this year, SUPER NINETYSEVEN twice came close to lowering the colours of STEPITUP in the three-year-old series, finishing second in the Group 3 Classic and Group 1 Guineas in which he started favourite both times.

Things could have been different had he not have the tendency to laid in and out under pressure. Still he managed five wins and four seconds as a three-year-old.

Punters stayed faithful to the Australian gelding who repaid them with a win last time out and again sent him out odds-on favourite in the S$200,000 Committee's Prize over 1600m at Kranji today.

SUPER NINETYSEVEN settled down in last place but Joao Moreira was able to weave his way through traffic at the home bend and took a opening at a crucial time to challenge for the lead.

He then powered home to win by two and a quarter lengths and in the process set a new course time of 1min. 33.61 secs. on the short course, which beat the previous best by 0.02 second set by CORRAGIO in 2009.

"He can be a handful of a horse, but he is definitely improving. He is mentally more mature, and I think he can continue to mentally develop further,” said trainer Michael Freedman.
