America Seal wraps up 4YO Challenge

KUALA LUMPUR:  Nov 30, 2013

Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Corey Brown's maiden foray into Malaysia yielded a big prize when he triumphed in the RM200,000 Malaysia 4YO Challenge 3rd leg astride AMERICA SEAL at Sungei Besi here today.

The America gelding did not participate in the first two lengths which were held over 1200m and 1600m respectively. But after having won thrice over today's distance of 1800m on this track, he was always going to be hard to beat.

Brown, who is now based in Singapore, made the trip up north after landing two winners at Kranji last night.

AMERICA SEAL, who had previously won his races coming from well off the pace, got off to a bright start and was fighting for his head early. Brown settled him just off the pace and waited till the 400m to make his move.

AMERICA SEAL hit the front 150m out and just held on to beat the fast-finishing JIMTOWN by three-quarter of a length. It's his fifth win in 19 outings.

While AMERICA SEAL started joint second favoruite and paid RM25 for a win, there were some big upsets.

GOLDHILL PRINCESS, who had been purchased by trainer Wayne Lim for A$75,000 as a yearling, made a winning debut in Restricted Maiden to pay RM826 for a win, the second highest payout of the year.

Surprisingly, two recent winners also paid three-figure dividends.

BUKIT MAS, a winner just two starts back, notched his fifth win to pay RM258. Today's win was his fifth.

COOL AND MANLY, who scored his maiden win two starts back, paid RM130.
