Jai Shankar's dream of a
first jockey championship received a big boost when he scored a hat-trick at
Sungei Besi here today starting with the RM100,000 Sa Sa Fashion On The Turf
Trophy.
STRALETA, winner of two
races in Australia, was having her third start in the country for trainer
Shane Edwards.
Shankar was partnering the
six-year-old for the first time today and the mare saw off the favourite
TAFFETAS to win by one and a quarter lengths in the race for fillies and
mares, the main feature on ladies day at the Selangor Turf Club.
Shankar went to score on
JOHNNY'S CAFE and HEART BY HEART. But he could have an even better day had
he not lost a race in the Steward's Room.
Shankar was first past the
post on HORIZON LAD in the New Tide Stakes but was relegated after the rider
of the second horse past the post, FOX TREASURE, filed a protest for
interference.
Shankar enjoyed his best
season last year when he finished third in the jockey's table behind Eirwan
Khalid with 49 winners.
With the three winners
today, he is now just one winner behind Azhar Ismail who leads the table
with 46 winners after winning on NEW YORK CITY today.
