Jai Shankar, who had his
best season yet when he finished third behind Eirwan Khalid and Jose De
Souza in the jockey's premiership with 49 winners last year, has made a
flying start to the new season.
After landing two winners
last week and another yesterday, Shankar was superb form today when he
booted home four winners to lead the table four ahead of Benny Woodworth.
Shankar sprang a mild
surprise on DAVID DYNASTY who had failed to show up in six previous starts
before guiding APRIL RAIN to a comeback win.
He then landed popular wins
on JAI HO and KANEGURA. For the former, who had a win in two starts in South
Africa, it was the end of a long lane in the local circuit after failing to
score in 20 starts previous in Singapore and Malaysia.
At nine, Japanese entire
KANEGURA showed that there is plenty of life left in him with his ninth win
in 74 starts. He won six races in Singapore and since moving up north to
Malaysia last year, has collected three more wins.
