Jai Shankar rode into the
history books when he booted home three winners in quick succession to
become the first Indian jockey to win the jockey's premiership on the local
circuit.
Starting the day one win
behind former champion Azhar Ismail, Shankar found the mark on BIG TSUNAMI,
CRAZY CLUB and BIG ROCK - all trained by Shane Edwards - to take the title
with 52 winners.
Shankar's previous best
season was last year when he finished third to Eirwan Khalid with 49
winners.
BIG TSUNAMI scored his
maiden win after being placed twice in his last three starts.
CRAZY CLUB, a two-time
winner earlier this year, was a runaway winner after finding one to be beat
in his last three outings.
BIG ROCK easily captured
the Scenic Lodge Trophy to record his fourth win in 30 starts, his second
after coming under Edwards last April.
