New-kid-on-the-block
Shanmugam Subramaniam saddled his first winner when TUXEDO URCHIN overturned
a run of dismal runs to win the opening race here today.
Ridden by last season's
champion jockey Eirwan Khalid, the Australian six-year-old came in for
inspired betting despite his recent lack of form and having his second
outing under the new trainer.
Drawn on the inside, TUXEDO
URCHIN hugged the rails and allowed THREE THOUGHTS to take up the running.
Eirwan switched him out from behind the leader at the top of the straight
and the gelding got going in the final 150m to score by three quarters of a
length.
It was TUXEDO URCHIN's second win in 27 starts
and he paid
RM31 for a win. The
going was yielding for the first two races, then improved to good.
