Stepitup bags Colonial Chief Stakes

After making a clean sweep of the Three-Tear-Old Series earlier in the season, STEPITUP failed to measure up in two Group 1 races against all ages on his return to racing following a spell.

But the Australian gelding bounced back like a true champion that he is when he captured the S$175,000 Colonial Chief Stakes over 1700m on the polytrack at Kranji here today.

Ridden by Ivaldo Santana, STEPITUP was fully tested before beating TRUDEAU by a short head in the Group 3 event, the final feature of the season.

STEPITUP's return to winning ways coincided with the renewal of partnership with the Brazilian jockey.

Santana had partnered the gelding to all his previous seven wins but fractured four ribs in a nasty fall from MIRACLE BAY in August and was out of action for three months.

STEPITUP, meanwhile, was unplaced in the Kranji Mile and Raffles Cup on his return to racing after a four-month spell.
