It has been a long, long
time since Penang based trainers dominated the races as they did this
weekend.
Yesterday, they won five of
the seven races contested and today they made a clean sweep of the nine
races on the card.
Coincidentally, this show
of force came in the very first meeting after the Penang Turf Club announced
an increase in the 'incentive bonus' to RM20,000.
This amount is paid to the
winning owner of a Penang based horse that wins a race in Penang, on top of
the regular prize money.
Wee Mung Hua led the way
with three winners and now shares the lead at the top of the table with
Kevin Cozetee and Leong Poh Keong at six winners apiece.
Veteran trainer Tommy
Noordin and David Miller also saddled their first winner of the season which
means all 10 Penang based trainers are off the mark for the new season.
