TENZING, who has not tasted
success since winning the Fortune Bowl nearly a year ago, has bounced back
to form at the right moment as he seeks to defend the Group 3 event which
will be run in three weeks' time.
The Australian six-year-old
finished a creditable fourth in the Singapore Gold Cup last November but has
two disappointing runs since.
However, partnered by John
Powell today, TENZING found plenty at the finish to win drawing away by
three-quarter length in the Woodlands Classic Stakes which has been elevated
to Group 3 level this year.
"It’s nice to kick off the
year with a feature win," said Powell who had combined with trainer Cliff
Brown to win the Emirates Singapore Derby with CLINT in 2011.
“I thought he would run a
good race today, but his next start in the 2000m race (Fortune Bowl) will be
even better," said Brown.
