While the seniors may have
their minds on the general election tomorrow, the apprentices were fully
focused on the job at hand when they won seven of the eight races contested
here today. Toast of
the lads was Lam Siew Leong who booted home three winners for his master Dr
Tan Swee Hock. Among their winners were a pair of eight year olds, WU JIN
and KAKA. But it was
Tham Kin Chong who has the most reason to celebrate after he landed his
maiden win on MID SUN, trained by his master Nor Azman.
MID SUN's only previous win came more than
three years ago, in February 2010.
Up-and-coming apprentice
Amirul Ismadi, son of former top jockey Ismadi Ismail who landed his first
win on ROCKET EXPRESS two weeks ago, was again successful on the gelding and
also scored on K-POP who became the first Korean bred to win on the local
circuit. The shock of
the day was served by last season's champion apprentice Yap Kin Yin who
scored on LITTLE RAINFOREST with the recent winner paying RM276 for a win.
The going was soft for the first three races,
then improved to yielding.
