Veteran jockey Wan Teck Moon was today handed a four-month suspension for his ride on DARWIN in a Class 5 - 1300m handicap in Penang on Mar 16. DARWIN, trained by Jerome Tan, was always in midfield when fifth to NORDSTROM. The Stewards concluded an inquiry into the ride of DARWIN today. Further evidence was taken from Wan and Tan. Wan was then found guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards, in that near the 350m to the winning post, he failed to give sufficient rein with his left hand whilst using the whip in his right hand when his mount was improving. When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account Wan’s riding record and mitigating factors. His licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of four months with effect from Monday to Aug 21, both dates inclusive. In addition, Wan was fined the sum of RM20,000 and was advised of his right of appeal. At the conclusion of another inquiry, apprentice Khoo Kay Keat was suspension two months for his handling of MONEY NOT ENOUGH in a Class 5 - 1200m sprint here last Sunday. Further evidence was taken from Khoo, the rider of MONEY NOT ENOUGH, in the presence of his master/trainer Peter Lee, also the trainer of MONEY NOT ENOUGH. Khoo pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards, in that near the 200m to the 50m, he failed to ride his mount, MONEY NOT ENOUGH with sufficient vigour. When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account Khoo’s guilty plea, riding record, his forthright evidence and mitigating factors. His licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of two months from Sunday to Jun 20, both dates inclusive. He was also advised of his right of appeal. |
