Yan steals limelight with treble

Jockey Yan Weng Kuan stole the limelight on a heavy track here today when he booted home three winners.

It was easily his best afternoon for a long time, bringing his tally for the season to 19 wins. By comparison, he rode only eight winners last year and was sidelined for the whole of 2011 through suspension.

Yan dealt a blow to punters when he piloted GOOD GIFT to victory in a Class 5 - 1300m handicap and the winners paid RM138 as a result of four consecutive dismal runs.

Yan and trainer Kevin Coetzee completed a double with last-start winner MAGIC BABY who is very much on the upgrade with three wins in his last four outings.

Yan went on to score on PIPED PIPER who ended series of five consecutive placings with a narrow victory, his second in 21 starts.
