Thwaites may have found an Ace

KUALA LUMPUR:  Jan 25, 2014

Trainer Malcolm Thwaites, who wowed the local scene with a host of American horses such as multiple Cup winner HE'S DAWAN in the eighties, may have found a gem again in ACE SURPRISE.

The American colt, who accounted for a capacity field of three-year-olds to win his debut last November,  has stepped it up in style to win a mixed field of three and four-year-olds at Sungei Besi here today.

Ridden once again by apprentice Mohd Firdaus Mansor, ACE SURPRISE ran his rivals off their feet with a six-and-a-half-length victory to make it a perfect two-from-two.

The colt, son of Breeders' Cup Mile winner ARTIE SCHILLER, was purchased as a two-year-old by Constance Cheng of Henh Stable for A$60,000.

Firdaus, who is indentured to Thwaites, shared riding honours in this "home-based" meeting with Lim Aun Kean with two winners apiece.
