Having won the 3YO Sprint
(1200m), the first leg of the Singapore three-year-old series with ease, WAR
AFFAIR was always going to be hard to beat in the second leg, the S$350,000
Classic, run over 1400m at kranji here today.
Considering also that he
has won seven of his previous 10 starts including four group races, with a
second placing in the Group 1 Raffles Cup (1800m) last year to boast,
punters sent him out a raging favourite at $8.
Handled beautifully by
Danny Beasley, WAR AFFAIR as usual sat in midfield and was poised to strike
making the turn into the straight. He went onto to win by two lengths and
Beasley is already looking forward to the Singapore Guineas on May 16.
"We’ll just keep him
ticking for the mile and he’s going to be even better in three weeks’ time,"
said the jockey who also ride him in the 3YO Sprint.
Last year's Juvenile
Championship winner and champion two-year-old looks set to emulate the likes
of STEPITUP, SUPER EASY, GINGERBREAD MAN and BETTER THAN EVER in making a
clean sweep of the series.
For trainer Alwin Tan, who
took over WAR AFFAIR at the end of last year and has started the gelding
thrice for two wins and a second, the 2014 season just gets better and
better. The Singaporean currently leads the table with 29 winners, six ahead
of Michael Freedman.
