WAR AFFAIR scored one of
the most emphatic wins in a group event at Kranji when he spreadeagled his
rivals in the S$500,000 Raffles Cup (1800m) here today.
The Singapore Group 1 race
attracted a top-notch field but WAR AFFAIR trashed them to win by four and
three-quarter lengths in a time of 1min 46.34secs, just 0.03 second off the
course record set by SUPERB in 2010.
After having also won the
Kranji Mile (1600m) on Oct 5, the New Zealand four-year-old looks a strong
possibility to become the first horse to make a clean sweep of the Singapore
Triple Crown when he lines up for the Singapore Gold Cup (2200m) on Nov 16.
Trainer Alwin Tan said: "I
have no doubt he can stay and it’s now or never to test him, more so when
it’s the Gold Cup. The weight will be a concern." The Gold Cup is a handicap
event.
WAR AFFAIR has enjoyed a
remarkable season this year after his transfer to trainer Alwin Tan, making
a clean sweep of the Three-Year-Old series, winning the Sprint, Classic and
Guineas.
His record for the year
reads five wins and two seconds from as many starts. WAR AFFAIR was also the
top juvenile last year, winning the Aushorse Golden Horseshoe and the
Juvenile Championship.
His life time record is now
11 wins and three seconds in 15 starts.
