Last season's best
two-year-old WAR AFFAIR has struck the first blow in this year's Singapore
three-year-old series by winning open leg, the S$250,000 Singapore 3YO
Sprint over 1200m at Kranji here today.
Going on his performance in
the Group 3 event today, it's hard to see him not going on to claim the next
two legs as well.
After finishing fourth in
his debut last year, the New Zealand gelding reeled off six consecutive wins
which included the Group 2 Aushorse Golden Horseshoe and the Group 3
Juvenile Championship, both over 1200m.
Later in the year, WAR
AFFAIR also won the Group 3 Magic Millions More Magic 3YO Championship
(1600m). This was followed by a splendid second in the Group 1 Raffles Cup
(1800m) against all-comers.
WAR AFFAIR then had a
change of trainer to Alwin Tan and resumed after four-month let-up to finish
second in a Kranji Stakes A event over 1200m last month.
Benefiting from that outing, WAR AFFAIR,
ridden for the first time by Danny Beasley today, tracked pacemaker
FAALTLESS from the start before winning easily by one and a half lengths and
continued a remarkable season for the Singapore trainer who now leads the
table with 23 winners.
"He will now go for the other two Legs. I have
no doubt he will be even better over 1400m and 1600m and eventually long
distances as he is a stayer," said Tan.
